Connected. United. 4 Change.
Our first project is to improve the sustainability of Bumpe, Sierra Leone, which is out first international partner school. The school in Bumpe had a lot of amenities and was a very integral part of the community until the rebel war (1991-2002) destroyed it. Now the school has a lack of electricity, technology, bathrooms, staff, and general resources. Their major concerns are girls not feeling motivated to continue schooling and the lack of sustainable electricity. Currently the school is running off of a diesel power generator which is very difficult and costly to use.The people of Bumpe have also large problem with early marriage and teen pregnancy and feel that education can help decrease this issue and better the lives of the women and girls in Bumpe. 'Connected. United. 4 Change.' wants to help our partners by raising money to provide solar panels to their school.
Please help us and the people of Bumpe to improve the sustainability of their community. Thanks to everyone for your support!
Here is the post from our partners:
"WE DISTRIBUTED SOLAR LANTERNS TO STUDENTS/ VULNERABLE CHILDREN IN RURAL COMMUNITIES WITHOUT ELECTRICITY SUPPLY.
Challenges parents face to afford lanterns, batteries or kerosine to manage locally made/fragile lanterns for their children to study at night is over with long-lasting solution (Drop-proof, UV-stable, IP65 rated polycarbonate & ABS casing, Water-resistant with O ring seal for rain and humidity protection)"
Thank you to everyone who donated, we are working on sending our second shippment very soon!
"Sierra Leone entered a week-long mourning period for the victims of the flooding that has killed more than 300 people, with fears that the death toll could rise as 600 remain missing." ( http://www.aljazeera.com/amp/news/2017/08/floods-kill-300-fears-rise-600-missing-170816060837531.html)
We have been working with students from Sierra Leone for over a year, and our hearts are filled with despair when thinking about the tragedy currently tearing families apart. We must help our fellow citizens of earth when they are in need and in distress.
Our hearts go out to our friends in Sierra Leone during this terrible time. As we keep them in our thoughts in hope for their safety, we are also thinking of ways we can help the people affected by the mudslide. Please donate to help send Bumpe an emergency fund. The money will go towards food, medicine, and household needs for displaced victims such as orphans and their guardians.
