Lost Format Society

In the beginning it was just three Croydon locals Farouk Deen, Justin Owens and Mark Sarfo, who shared a goal to contribute to the development of Croydon as a destination for entertainment and culture.

From this simple objective Lost Format Society  was born in 2015 as Croydon's first and only rooftop cinema and bar.

Farouk Deen, Co-Founder: “We were brought up here and understand Croydon’s heritage. We have been lucky enough to work with the local council in order to build this project and we’re excited to see progress already being made in the area. Lost Format Society is our way of contributing to the regeneration, to revitalise the area and strengthen the community.”

Lost Format Society went on to become an award winning rooftop experience recommended by Time Out.

It means much more than that to the local community, where it serves as a champion for all the good activity and events to be found throughout the borough all year around. Supporting and showcasing local businesses and services and providing employment opportunities to local young adults.

Lost Format Society Team

Bringing us right to the present where our plans to return in May (2019) have been impacted by the unfortunate actions of some individuals. When not open and in use we store all our cinema and bar infrastructure at the Shurgard in Purley Way, Croydon. The entire warehouse was victim to a devastating fire on NYE and has resulted in losing every single bit of Lost Format Society equipment.

With the projector alone being a challenging proposition, the list of equipment to replace is lengthy. Think about everything that you can imagine to transform a concrete rooftop to a garden oasis with a 150 seat cinema and bar event space for 500 people. There is absolutely nothing left. Gone. Toast.

Despite this set back Mark, Justin and Farouk are determined to bring back Lost Format Society for May 2019 and the funds received will go towards supporting them to replace the equipment lost and to make Lost Format Society even bigger and better than ever before.

Given this recent event, as a community we are definitely in need of something to look forward to so we have decided that for this summer, we are making all of our cinema screenings FREE for ALL.

Any donators who contribute over  £30 will be invited with a guest to a one off invitation only private screening including a complimentary bar for all invited guests prior to the film commencing.
