Cristie's Battle Over Breast Cancer

Donation protected
Cristie and I met while in junior high school. Twenty-five years later we rekindled our relationship when I moved back to town. She has three beautiful and talented children that I have come to know, love, and care for.

In the middle of April, Cristie discovered a lump in her breast and quickly had it imaged. Having worked in OB-GYN as a CMA(Certified Medical Assistant) for several years, she knew the image did not look good. A biopsy was done immediately and three days later the results came back positive.

We quickly got to work and put together our team of surgeons and oncologists, as well as alerting our troupe of family and friends - we're going to beat this!

Additional imaging, pathology and genealogy informed us that she had additional masses. This information along with her age led us to the decision to proceed with a bilateral mastectomy. Cue the appointments. Despite how  common cancer is in our society, we never knew the steps it entails to overcome. It has been a humbling experience to say the least and the education we have received through the ordeal has become priceless.

Breast cancer was the bad news, but fate wasn't done with us yet. Around the time of Cristie's diagnosis, we got word that the clinic Cristie works for as a CMA, was being bought out and would be shutting the doors. No job. No insurance. She quickly found new employment, ironically in an oncology department, but we all know the charming nature of health insurance when starting a new job - there will be a lapse in coverage. In addition to lacking health coverage, she will not have the possibility of PTO(paid time off) or vacation time to cover the expense of being unable to work for three weeks.

So here we are and this is me asking for your help. I don't know what the final costs and tallies will be, but I am attempting to  remove stress from Cristie's recovery.  Thank you in advance for any thoughts, prayers, and help.

The surgery is scheduled for May 23rd.
Contributions would go towards three weeks employment, deductibles and premiums.
