Delia's Creative Writing Dream

In the wee hours of the night after a long day of work, driving kids to practices and running errands, I received notice of an opportunity that I had written off. To my surprise, I received a partial scholarship and a lovely note about my writing for a week-long creative writing workshop in Massachusettes. So I have to reach out and ask if anyone can help with my goal to cover the remaining tuition, lodging, and travel.  

I want to be a writer and that means long grueling hours of work and little recognition but for me, it's fulfilling a dream that I am not sure that I would be able to fulfill otherwise. I enjoy writing, I love poetry and making up stories so I have to actively pursue my dream of becoming a writer. I did not expect to receive this opportunity since the final decisions had been made several weeks before. My award letter came with the following statement: "Your poem, which speaks to both your love of poetry and the moment of birth of your work is wonderful, and your letter which reveals the joys and the struggles of creative writing (btw: I’ll be talking about my own first 100 rejections in the class I teach) is precisely why MVICW exists—you seem a perfect match for our program." These words are valuable to me and encourage me to keep trying my hand at this thing called writing.
