City Planning Institute Scholarships (Summer 2019)
Tax deductible
In partnership with the Center for Community Planning , the New Jersey Chapter of the American Planning Association is urging friends and colleagues to join us in a fundraiser to support the 2019 Summer City Planning Institute ("CPI") to benefit 60 high school students with full scholarships and all expenses paid.
Launched in 2017, the summer program was started to address two key issues: the general lack of ethnic and racial diversity within the city planning profession and to proactively supplement civics education in public schools most notably in urban areas with higher rates of poverty.
Now in its 3rd year, the CPI has expanded to two summer programs in the City of Newark and one program at Passaic County Community College serving both the City of Paterson and City of Passaic. None of this would have been possible without your generosity.
The total program cost is roughly $25,000 and we're hoping our members and allied professionals will help us raise $5,000 which the Chapter will match. Additional funds are being sought through institutional investments and grants.
What the CPI provides:
These two-week institutes incorporate training from certified planners, guest speakers, field trips, and real world application of state of the art technology. Lunch is also provided to the students. Upon completion, students present their findings at a graduation ceremony in front of local officials, community members, family, and friends where they receive a certificate.
