Hello!
My name is Cherra Ross and I am a second year Master's level occupational therapy student studying at Howard University.
I have been offered the oppurtunity to particpate in an occupational therapy based service learning abroad program in Costa Rica from March 11-20th, 2017. With the upcoming spring semester being my last time in the classroom, this is my last chance to particpate in a study abroad program. It would mean the world to me to partake in this experience and be a great way to end end my academic career at Howard University.
BUT, I need your help!
I need to raise $2,000 by February 10, 2017.
The Study Abroad program is in partnership with the Universidad of Santa Paula, Costa Rica and will offer
OT students like myself a cross-cultural learning experience that will improve cross-cultural competence, leadership skills, and sensitivity to occupational and social justice in a globally connected society.
Objectives:
1. Examine the various health care populations and approaches used in a rural country
2. Develop a working relationship with students and workers from other cultures during observation time and direct service care
3. Explore issues of social justice, and economic determinants of health among the various people in Costa Rica;
4. Increase proficiency in Spanish
5. Directly contribute to an international service-learning project that seeks to assist and facilitate people’s well being; thus participating in a global effort to alleviate poverty
Cost Breakdown:
Airfare: $500.00
Program Fee and Hotel Accommodations: $1,500.00
10 days include: hotel, orientation, cultural tours, ground transportation, hospital visits, educational workshops (Spanish and University classes), University travel insurance, and three meals per day.
Total Cost: $2,000.00
