Daiva and Cem (sounds like- die-va and gem, for those of you who haven't had the pleasure of meeting them) are the two most amazingly in love, and cosmically connected people.
By nearly dying, they each ended up saving each others lives, in the most unheard of, terrifying, tragic, circumstances.
But before we get into that, a little bit about my best friends--
Daiva is the girl that everyone falls in love with, both men and women. Daiva's nickname is Smiley-Daiva because she's always happy, spreading compassion, and searching for fun. Daiva's compassion spread into her livelihood- with a BS in Social Work, she has dedicated herself to advocating for mental health patients. She decided to further her career and pursue a nursing degree to continue her dedication to others. She was only a couple weeks away from graduation when everything happened.
Cem is that friend who makes everything ok. If people around him are arguing about politics or any heated topic, Cem will find the most perfect moment to slip in a joke, quip, or sarcastic remark, and the argument is instantly over. He's the clown, the funny guy, and always makes others laugh. He too, is compassionate and a dear friend who will surprise you with a Mexican Sprite when you're feeling sick. Cem had just been accepted into the same nursing program Daiva nearly completed.
Daiva and Cem met in 2008 and quickly fell in love. They also quickly became best friends, and luckily blended into each other's friend groups. Somehow their relationship was so natural, so genuine, that they made everyone around them fall in love, not only with them as individuals, but them as a couple.
Their crazy connection would truly become evident over 6 years later on November 21st 2014. Daiva and Cem were getting ready to go see the new Hunger Games when Daiva passed out in the shower, Cem called 911 and rode with her to the hospital. At the hospital Cem developed a headache and started slurring his speech, luckily doctors noticed and gave him a CT scan. They found he was hemorrhaging in his brain. He was rushed to a different hospital for emergency brain surgery. After testing, it was discovered that Daiva had a ruptured cerebral aneurysm, the following day she needed brain surgery too. It's become evident to those nearest to them that Daiva and Cem have some crazy, inexplicable, cosmic connection - that has left their loved ones and their doctors baffled by their story.
Since the incident, they have been in seperate hospitals and have yet to see each other.
We hope to raise money for them to cover their medical bills and post-hospitalization therapy.
Due to the severity of the surgery, Cem has Aphasia and will need extensive speech therapy to regain language skills. It will be a long road to recovery for both of them and they will need all the support they can get. Their friends are working on setting up regular updates on their progress.
