10 days ago, my organization CoSchool fell victim to a nasty case of bank fraud/robbery in Bogotá, Colombia. Over the course of 7 hours our bank account was systematically drained via a series of transfers, purchases, and withdrawals. It was, to put it bluntly, a nightmare.

For a small organization like ours, this represents a big punch in the mouth. Particularly because the chances of getting the funds back from the bank or help from the police are slim in Colombia.

However, we have been blown away by the messages of support that we have received during this time from friends in Colombia and beyond. Many allies, friends, and family have offered advice, moral support, and resources to help us move forward and resolve the situation as soon as possible. And when we thought about it, we realised that the type of programs that CoSchool run are just about perfect antidote to the criminal activity by which we suffered.  Over the last 3 years (see our impact report here ) we have developed programs that really help youngsters develop key social & emotional skills: decision making, empathy, perseverance, courage, self-management. It's possible that those people who stole from us on sunday never had the chance when they were young to really get to grips with these skills.

So, what if instead of being "victims" here we could instead use the event to promote and celebrate what we do and use it as a chance to give more young people a vital opportunity to activate their potential.

Well, it just so happens that we have one of our major programs kicking off in 2 months time. CAMPCO: the summer camp that mixes kids from disadvantaged backgrounds together to learn life changing leadership & character skills. In order to reach 375 students,
We set a fundraising goal of $50,000 for this project. The good news is we managed to reach $35,000. We
are still $15,000 short (enough for one entire two week camp for 125 students) and we thought, this is a good moment to ask our community if they can help us out.

What's more, the donations will be collected by our Fiscal Partner Unreasonable Institute (501c3) in the USA: hopefully making them as tax effective as possible for anyone involved.

This is a time when more than ever before, we need our community to rally around us and show the world that despite the obstacles in our path, we are only just gettting started....

Thank you. Your support truly makes a difference.

CoSchool was victim to a horrible robbery/fraud on the 2nd of April that left us with about 300 dollars in our bank account. Processes with the police & bank and ongoing and painfully slow, and a successful outcome is unlikely.
So, what have we done? We certainly didn't throw in the towel or give up. We stood up and we fought back. With the help of our community, we have been on a crusade.... and doing everything we can to use the event to CELEBRATE and PROMOTE our work to develop key character and leadership skills in young people across Colombia. We will not be deterred, we know our work matters, and so does our community - who have responded in incredible style. (THANK YOU!!) Over 120 people and organizations have supported the campaign and we have reached an almighty total of $11,200 already. We need just $3,800 to reach our target and complete this incredible turnaround.
The funds we raise are going towards MULTIPLYING our impact and running an extra Summer Camp (CampCo) from 20-30 June. CampCo will impact over 300 young people from disadvantaged backgrounds and your donation will make an incredible difference to them, transforming their holidays.
How do we build a better society? How do we prevent crime? We believe that developing skills like collaboration, resilience, better decision making, empathy, and self control is the answer - and that's what we are doing.
Help us to get over the line: we will close the page on June 1st!
Thank you so much,
Henry x

Today I went to La Calera, a town outside Bogotá that will benefit directly from this campaign. Here is a mini "vlog" explaining what went down.
With your help, we are running a "rural" CampCo there - the first of its kind!

Let's keep going and get that final $4K!

With gratitude
