The road beckons.

I invite you to join me (and Pamela, my beloved soccer-mom minivan) on another adventure, one that will take us through some of America’s most dramatic, stirring, and unusual terrain. Together, we will take a leap of faith into the unknown … exploring new places, meeting new friends, checking in with loved ones, and searching for beauty in all that we encounter. As always, I’ll be taking you right along with me, documenting our experiences through essays and photographs, sharing everything I find via frequent posts, postcards, and uploads.

During the early part of 2019, I’ll be crossing the country, travelling from the Pacific to the Gulf Coast to the Atlantic. I will be focusing this time on deserts, coastlines, swamplands, and other exotic areas of the southern states. I’ll be bringing my art supplies with me, so that I can continue to produce paintings and drawings.

My chief destination is an artist’s residency in St. Augustine, Florida, the oldest European settlement in the continental US, where I will be focusing on two major collaborative projects. First, I will be working with an architect on the development of an amazing new tool … a tarot for the 21st Century. Our deck is an illustrated set of metaphors to aid in conscious communication. We see its possible applications in brainstorming, problem solving, negotiation, storytelling, and cognitive therapy. In addition, I will be continuing work on a screenplay, a “road trip buddy movie” which is currently being co-written with a documentarian; this will be based, in part, on our travels within Florida. Beyond these primary goals, the path broadens again.

Your support translates into gas, food, and lodging, as well as emergency expenses. This kind of travel is risky: road trips come with blown tires and breakdowns, detours and delays and disruptions. Your help can mean the difference between discovery and disaster.

My road trips are meant to be shared experiences, intended more for the pleasure of my readers than for myself. I’ve often said that I travel for those who cannot, for those who are anchored or tethered or otherwise unable to wander at will. Most of all, I travel to promote a deeper understanding of our world.

I thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for your continued faith, generosity, and encouragement. Thank you for making such voyages possible. I cannot do it without you!
