Corey's Study Abroad in the UK
Donation protected
My name is Corey and I am a Sophomore at the University of Evansville. I am pursuing a degree in stage management for theater. This year I have been offered the opportunity to study abroad for the spring semester at Harlaxton Manor (http://harlaxton.evansville.edu/) in Lincolnshire, England. While at Harlaxton I will continue to study theatre, immerse myself in the study of British culture and enjoy weekend trips to surrounding regions including Ireland, Wales and Scotland.
I do not feel as well versed in theatre as my peers despite my love of theatre, because all the amazing experiences I have had working in theatre have been very local. I believe that traveling to Harlaxton will be a wonderful opportunity because of England’s rich theatrical history. England has always been a leading force in theatre and the arts. I think the best way to learn about something is through an engaging experience, and for me, such an experience is a hands-on, in-person experience. The Harlaxton program will make this possible, and I want to take the rare opportunity to learn more about my chosen field and explore the county which produced some of the most famous and influential figures in theatre.
Studying abroad is something I have always wanted to do, however, it is more expensive than a normal semester at my college by about $3,700, and the school recommends having additional money for traveling and other non-school expenses (a normal semester is about $22,000, vs abroad $25,700). I have saved up some money by working two jobs this past summer, and I am working in the school library as part of work-study. I do have a few small scholarships, but I am a couple of thousand dollars short. I am actively looking and applying for additional scholarships however I could really use your help. Whether it is $10, $30, or more, any donation is appreciated and will help me to further my education and realize a long-awaited dream. Spring semester starts in January 2020!
