Corbin's Journey

Donation protected

Our nephew was born on March 1st (one month early) in Las Vegas.  We knew when Kirbi was pregnant, that Corbin was going to be born with a heart defect that would require surgery down the road (3-6 months).  On March 7th, we received some news that rocked our world, Corbin was diagnosed with down syndrome.  Tests had been done when Corbin was still in the womb.  These tests didn't detect down syndrome, and were supposedly 99% accurate.  Kirbi and Laz have been so strong through all of this.  We are being postive, and are so lucky to have Corbin in our lives.  We know that he is going to make an impact on whomever he meets, and touch the lives of so many.  With that being said, it has been a roller coaster filled with many emotions, good days, bad days, and everything in between.  He is still in the hospital, and we are unsure when he will get to come home.  My sister is keeping everyone informed through her blog http://corbingunnar.blogspot.com.  There are still so many questions we have that will only get answered in time.  Kirbi and Laz are not ones to ask for money, so we have decided to set up this gofundme account for them, because they really need the help.  Kirbi can't work full time, given the amount of additional care he requires before and after his open-heart surgery.  The medical bills are beginning to rack up.  On top of the medical bills and heart surgery, he will need many types of therapy (speech, occupational, physical).  We want what is best for Corbin.  From birth-3, early intervention is covered.  Most families take advantage of early intervention, but also get involved in more extensive therapies to try to give their child the best opportunities to grow socially, acadmeically and physically.  Down syndrome falls under a developmental delay, which is not covered through insurance.  These extra therapies cost thousands of dollars.  The money that is raised will go towards Corbin's medical bills and give him the opportunites that we dream of for him.  We are beyond blessed and so lucky to have such a great support system.  Thank you in advance for the abundance of thoughts and prayers being sent our way.  We know that Kirbi and Laz will be forever grateful for your donations. Corbin Gunnar is a fighter, and he will continue to fight, perservere, and amaze all of us.  His future is packed with potential.

Thanks,
Kaitlin and Kelsi
