Cooler Communities Berkshires

For our fourth Berkshire Earth Expo on April 6th, 2019 at the Pittsfield Boys and Girls Club, we are going BIG!

We will feature student's classroom work on energy and climate-related topics, partnering with the Harold Grinspoon Charitable Foundation's, the Flying Cloud Institute, the Berkshire science fair and especially Berkshire County schools. This collaboration is called the Berkshire Cooler Communities Challenge.

Inspired by the students' work, visitors to the event will pledge climate-smart actions, and we will record and track those pledges and the related carbon savings. Our collective results will be publicized for the whole community to celebrate and keep working on.

It's very exciting to be able to feature young people's engagement in climate and energy-related topics and collaborate with truly inspiring teachers in Berkshire County.

The Harold Grinspoon Charitable Foundation is providing small grants for the students' projects and we are raising money to cover some of the work that needs to be done on publicity, carbon tracking, project management, and a website. We hope that this model, which was pioneered in Concord, MA,  will serve as a template for many other towns all over the country to copy.
