Help us engage more girls in eSTEAM

Cool Girls Science and Art Club helps under-served elementary school girls in Boulder County nurture and grow their passion for science and art, and we need your help to reach more girls.   Responding to requests to serve more locations and age groups requires your support.

Cool Girls Science and Art Club is a nonprofit,501(c)(3)
tax-exempt organization co-founded in 2008 by elementary school girls from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds who love science and art. No one is ever turned away for financial reasons. Knowledgeable volunteer mentors have fun working side by side with us to encourage our passion for exciting, hands-on, inquiry-based, after-school activities. Through entrepreneurship, science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics (e-STEAM), we help make the world a better place.

We want to help other girls also build confidence and skills that will sustain their contributions to the community throughout their personal, academic and professional journeys. We focus on girls because evidence shows that women are significantly under-represented in STEM careers and in executive-level positions in business.

We want girls to have the choice to become astronauts, doctors, CEOs and even President!  As they grow older, girls who participate as teammates in programs like ours are less likely to drop out of science and math classes needed to build a skill base to access higher-paying e-STEAM careers and support their families.

During our weekly sessions, we perform experiments, create art, and go on family field trips to labs, parks and museums together. In addition, we serve girls and boys as we lead experiments at local schools and community events such as Longmont's A-PAL Chinese New Year and the Latino Cultural Festival and the Denver Mini Maker Faire.

Last summer we initiated our first Entrepreneurship Accelerator summer camp: 17 girls received venture capital to start businesses. Sponsors included Boomtown Accelerator, makeena and The University of Colorado Leeds School of Business.

With help from the National Girls Collaborative Project, we recently partnered with Boulder’s CodeCraft School of Technology to offer a coding class for teen Cool Girls beginning in January 2017.   The class focuses on HTML and CSS and the teen girls will develop and design their own websites.  We will also hold a reception to meet people to help teen Cool Girls find internships and personal mentors as they plan for college.

Also beginning in January, we will help lead free STEM activities for kids in two low-income county housing developments in Longmont and Lafayette.

As a small nonprofit organization powered primarily by a great volunteer network of scientists, artists, engineers, entrepreneurs, parents and older students, we rely on donations to cover expenses. Your gift will help a young girl have fun developing the confidence and skills to sustain her contributions to the community throughout her personal, academic and professional journey.

Your gift funds after-school experiments, art activities and field trips, buys supplies for the students, and supports critically needed outreach to underserved communities. Our nation needs more citizens to fill thousands of jobs requiring skills, creativity and passion for e-STEAM.

Donations are accepted on an ongoing basis to expand our programming, the number of girls we reach, and to purchase items such as electronics and drone kits, and a microscope laptop attachment for field investigations.

Thank you for your generous support--and please help spread the word!
