Conor‘s Stroke Recovery Fund

Donación protegida
He’s more myself than I am.
Whatever our souls are made of,
his and mine are the same…”
—Emily Brontë, Wuthering Heights

On January 25th, a few days after his 39th birthday, my husband, my soul mate, my best friend Conor fell critically ill very suddenly. We had been looking forward to the weekend. The glass of wine was poured, but instead he was taken away in an ambulance that night. He suffered a large right frontal intercerebral haemorrhage, a large bleed on his brain, and consequently  underwent a craniotomy (brain surgery) a few short hours later. Conor remained in a coma for the next 2 days and the prognosis initially was not good. Today we are glad that he is alive, that he survived the stroke and that he has started his long journey to recovery. With this very unexpected and sudden turn of events, our lives have been turned upside down and inside out.
We know that nothing will ever be the same.

Conor and I are raising five young children, aged 12, 8, 6, 4 and 1. We are the best of friends. He is a wonderful, loving father, very hands on with our children, a devoted husband who dedicates every minute and each ounce of his energy to his family, his children, our beautiful home and his job as data analyst. He works a busy job which he loves. His presence, both at home and at work, is very sorely missed.

Conor is currently in hospital undergoing rehabilitation which will last many months. He has been left with a high level of disability and needs daily rehabilitation and therapy. He will remain an in-patient for the near future for extensive medical therapy and will need future rehabilitation in the National Rehabilitation Hospital.

We are setting up this page as Conor’s stroke recovery fund, to help lighten the load on his family during this trying time and to be able to make needed adjustments to our family home to make Conor’s transition from hospital to home as smooth as possible when that time comes.

A heartfelt Thank You to all of our friends, family and colleagues who have reached out and supported us, to everyone who has gone above and beyond to help during the acute first weeks, for all the cards, well wishes, for all the prayers and lit candles.
