I'm Christine Stewart and my 13 year old nephew, Connor Howell, son of Summer & Mark Howell was in a near fatal motorcross accident and is currently in ICU with a tramatic brain injury.  It's expected that he will remain in a medically induced coma for the next two  - three weeks  along with an extended hospital stay. Connor is a sweet, active,  strong kid, he's a fighter - and while the doctors are optimistic he'll pull through, Connor's recovery is going to be arduous and the medical expenses - extensive.  I'm reaching out to my friends and family to show support, to pray, and if possible to donate toward's Connor's recovery fund. Every little bit helps, and would be greatly appreciated.

Hey all! Conner is in rehab! Progress is slow, and the doctors have told Mark & Summer not to focus on daily progress, but to look at progress by month. Conner will need a lot of support and therapy to get back on track, but the doctors are confident he will make a full recovery. Conner can sit upright unsupported for about five seconds without leaning to the side, and his speech is improving as well. The doctors have said with traumatic brain injury, people under 25 years old have a much better chance at full recovery, and when a part of the brain is damaged, the brain can sometimes reroute itself to function properly. Thank you for the continued support! Hope you all have a wonderful weekend, and more updates to follow!

Happy fabulous Friday! Conner is breathing on his own! No more vent, hooray! He is still coming out of sedation, so very "out of it". His voice is very raspy from the vent, but he was awake long enough and coherent enough to tell his mother he loved her.

Last night and today was an emotional roller coaster - all good things, but healing is difficult. As Conner becomes stronger, he's very agitated with the ventilator. Imagine as a parent watching your child, weak, hooked up to machines having to be held down to prevent pulling out the very machine that's helping him breath, tears streaming down his face, knowing it's necessary, knowing it's a sign of better things to come, but still feeling so helpless. Today, Conner had an MRI to check his neck and fortunately the ligaments are stretched but not torn. He will remain in a neck brace for the next few weeks, just to be safe. Now for the good news - if all goes as planned, Conner will have the vent removed tomorrow! He will remain in ICU for a couple days and then move to rehab. Prayers and healing thoughts are working. Keep em' coming!

I got a call from, Summer on my way to work this morning. She was ECSTATIC! Conner is responding to commands!! This is HUGE. He opened his eyes. He is nodding yes and no to questions, and squeezing hands. Hopefully the ventilator will be removed within the next 48 hours. More to follow....

I am not sure what type of insurance you have or which hospital he was taken too. However request a caseworker ( if you do not already have one) and see if he would qualify for CCS ( California Children Services) it is state funded to assist children under 21 years of age.

He can hear every word you speak, music is very healing, his favorite music should be playing. Visitors, talk to him, sing to him pray with him. My husband has a TBI it is a long road, I will be praying for your family. My sanity a lot of days has been the support I receive from. FB group (it is private) but it is for brain injury caretakers & survivors. A lot of knowledge from those that have been thru this some less some worse. If you would like me to add you message me. It's really been a great support system.
