Furious Femmes presents CONCRETE Exhibition

INDEPENDENT COLLECTIVE EXHIBITION

East London location to be disclosed.

FURIOUS FEMMES COLLECTIVE

An independent all-female art collective. Curating, producing and presenting multimedia exhibitions in London. Furious Femmes aims to nurture BAME artists and foster relationships between fashion, film, music and art talent independently, both as a collective and individually.

An alternative, small positive program for underrepresented women of colour and ethnic-minority female creatives. A platform by young women for young women that supports the collaborations of students, emerging artists, and independent creatives. We give ourselves the freedom as artists occupying a space dedicated to a broad range of visual arts.

My friend, Tifany and I, founded the collective last year, as participating co-founders with 5 other BAME creatives. We are currently developing another exhibition in London. After a sold-out launch event for our first exhibition last year, this year our exhibition is expanding our collective and exhibiting in a larger gallery space this October/November.

Furious Femmes presents CONCRETE is to exclusively showcase 14 talented emerging BAME artists, designers, filmmakers and photographers and other artistic talents; who propose a diverse range of unique and authentic artworks. Ranging across a variety of genres, personal methods and strong themes, in this innovate presentation. A new formation of women, incorporating individuality, diversity, and inclusivity of all different backgrounds and cultures; not limited to a single theme rather a bold expression. Furious Femme first print issue design catalog will also be launched on the opening night to celebrate our first year anniversary and provide a physical presence of all the work shown throughout the exhibition. Each and every one of our collections of work is different, based on individual inspirations, research, creativity, and production. In order to show our works in the best way to an audience, we need your help.

We are not the usual type of people you see filling an art gallery. Coming from an ethnic-minority and working-class background, making art for us is difficult because of the lack of interest in our stories and sometimes our presence is not even welcome. However last year, after our successful self-funded exhibition welcomed a warm response, showing the fundamental importance and interest of this collective and our events within the community. This presentation brings to light the stories of/ about BAME artists issues and inspirations to audiences, by physically coming together and presenting a self-curated visual showcase. This reflects all of our creative minds, in turn, our true selves, in a modern and truthful way. Funding would mean we gain access to space and give access to new audiences who want to see these stories and artworks.

Through the exhibition, Furious Femmes aims to:
- Strengthen creative collaboration between BAME artists.
- Empower BAME artists by providing a platform for their cultural production.
- Challenge the barriers within the arts; as to what is acceptable within the art space, we have artists coming from all different stages, furious femmes provides a space without status and focuses more on accessibility.
- Prioritises the experiences of women of colour and ethnic-minority female artists, with an open and undictated space.
- Our artists are able to choose how they represent themselves creatively without any rules or obligations.
- For women of colour and ethnic-minorities, expose their artistry to new audiences, in the desire to reduce and combat discrimination, racism, injustice, and inequality in the arts through positive and diverse representation.
- Build a network scheme for women to work together and supply a better representation of women within the contemporary art scene by promoting new art and projects every showcase.
- We help to support, develop and facilitate stability for independent artists, in professional and creative practises, by providing an opportunity to present work freely.
- Promote diversity, inclusion, accessibility, and equality for all BAME in the arts.
- Introduce London audiences to BAME art and culture that would not have been exposed to previously.

To enable the creation of this event we are seeking some help and support to help fund the essential costs of the venue and hosting the opening night, displays, sound equipment, travel expenses for volunteers, printing and distributing posters, promotional leaflets and design catalogs showcasing artists work. This will be available to visitors at the exhibition, containing images, artist statements and contact details which should bring more awareness to the individual artist, as well the collective. This exhibition will allow each artist to have exposure including industry professionals, potential employers/buyers, increase branding for designers and receive public feedback.

Unfortunately, to help this project to grow, we do not have the personal funds to finance the exhibition by ourselves. In our efforts to build funds we have raised £800 independently, however, we need a final push to produce our exhibition.

Your public support for our projects, whether you are donating towards our cause or sharing it would be a huge help.
Any donations are welcome and will be very gratefully received and in return, we will invite you to the opening night taking place in late October/Early November.
