Compassionate Care for Homeless Cats

Donation protected
Want to join us in making a difference? We are Kami and Diana, two friends brought together by kittens we found in the road. We’re raising money to sterilize, re-home and provide necessary medical care  to homeless cats in our county. Our goal is to keep our local homeless cat population from expanding and put an end to needless suffering.

Recently, we found a feral cat colony with an estimated population of 40.  All the cats are breeding. There are lots of kittens. Many are suffering immensely with severe injuries and sickness.

OUR FIRST MISSION
We set out to gather as many of the sick and injured cats and kittens that would allow us to touch them.  The good news: We were able to get five to the vet, two of which were healthy and only needed compulsory vetting and sterilization. Those two are up for adoption with generous help from Nashville Cat Rescue. We’ll talk more about them in a minute.

The bad news: one brown tabby kitten had to be euthanized after his xrays concluded his injuries were so severe that  to try to fix him would definitely continue his suffering without any promise of a happy life. The second kitten had to have his broken and poorly healed rear leg amputated.   A third kitten needed immediate hernia repair surgery on top of already having an upper respiratory infection.

This is Thumper, the amputee.

This is Bubbles, the guy with the hernia repair & upper respiratory infection.
Ash, the one little girl kitten of the first five,  was a healthy one!

As you may guess, veterinary care adds up quickly with 5 animals needing care of various degrees. We reached out to Nashville Cat Rescue (NCR) and were able to partner with them for the veterinary care these kittens needed. They very generously offered to take on these kitties and the lion’s share of the vet bill with the condition that we cover only $500. This is a phenomenal offer by a rescue organization that is facing severe financial shortages themselves. We were told they weren’t even taking on new cats! We feel like we’ve been given the Golden Ticket! These cats get a chance at life because of Nashville Cat Rescue.

THE COSTS
So here we are. The vet bill totals over $1500. This includes exams, sterilization, de-worming, combo testing, flea prevention and vaccines for 4 cats. X-rays, 1 euthanization, and of course, the amputation for Thumper and Bubbles’ hernia repair and upper respiratory infection meds. Not to mention the costs incurred by NCR for feeding and caring for them at Petsmart and Pet Supermarket stores where they await adoption.

ON GOING MISSION
As soon as we make good on our promise of $500 to NCR, any funds we raise beyond that will go towards controlling the rest of this massive cat colony.

For the cats that don’t prefer to interact with humans we will trap, neuter and return those cats back to their territory. This is only possible through collaboration with two amazingly compassionate organizations; the Pet Community Center in Nashville and Cheatham County Animal Awareness Foundation.  Vouchers were offered to us from Cheatham County Animal Awareness Foundation for volunteering to help control this large cat colony. This means for only $5 per cat we can get the colony sterilized, vaccinated and ear tipped at Pet Community Center. Any remaining friendly cats will receive standard vetting and will be  adopted out to their Forever Homes with Nashville Cat Rescue’s approval.

HOW YOU CAN HELP
Just sharing our campaign on social media with your circle of family, friends and coworkers who have a heart for animals in hardship is a huge boost towards our goal. Share our link to your Facebook timeline, Instagram account, Twitter, Snapchat, etc. The link is also easily shared through email and text message.

If our campaign resonates with you to make a donation, any amount is deeply appreciated and makes an impact. $1, $5, $10 truly adds up, gives our project momentum and means so much to us by paying off the vet bill we already have.

In the long run to help the rest of the colony, literally $5 gets a cat sterilized, rabies shots and an ear tip so they can get back to their  outdoor area that they prefer and not create any more kittens. $20 helps 4 cats get that same care.  We are tremendously grateful for absolutely every penny donated and every link shared.

Please, check back often with our page to see updates and photos of the kitties. We are excited to share with you the positive impact many compassionate, helping hearts can make

More information about Nashville Cat Rescue: The mission of Nashville Cat Rescue is to rescue cats and kittens from off the streets and from high-kill shelters and then adopt them out into loving homes. Before our cats are made available for adoption, they are tested for FIV/FeLV, spayed or neutered, given all necessary vaccinations, de-wormed, and given flea preventative.
