Thank you for supporting our campaign in creating accessible midwifery care in communities of color and low-income areas of North St. Louis County & City!
Community Birth & Wellness Center in Ferguson, Mo. is a Nonprofit Organization created by two African-American Doula's and our Clinical Partner Birth & Wellness Center in O'Fallon, Mo; all who have a passion, drive and vision for healthy mamas birthing healthy babies!

Our mission is to empower underserved families through access to quality care, education, through a community birth center ran by their peers and a network of professional support.

CBWC's goals are to provide:
Quality, accessible & affordable midwifery care
Increase & Support Breastfeeding
Continuing education programs
Professional certification programs
Community Resources

CBWC was birthed from a dream and serious need for accessible midwifery care and quality education for expectant families in the North St. Louis County & City areas. Due to healthcare barriers in our communities, African-American mothers and babies are 2-4x more likely to die or be harmed during childbirth in comparison to their white counterparts. The number of babies we're losing in the St. Louis area each year could have made up 15 kindergarten classrooms. We're also faced with the barrier that there are no African-American midwives (CPM-Certified Professional Midwife) skilled in homebirths and not enough women of color birthworkers in St. Louis at this time, which further creates a cultural barrier when it comes to racial disparities with our expectant mothers. By supporting us we can work towards the goal of educating more people of color as Community Health Workers, Perinatal Community Doulas, and midiwives, which creates opportunities for more jobs, better care, and a better health care system inside out.

Our organization was founded on October 10, 2015 and we opened our doors to our Prenatal Home Office in Ferguson on Thursday January 7, 2016! This was a big accomplishment for us. We just kept hearing how convenient and easy it was for moms to get to their prenatal visits because the drive was not so far! So we've accomplished our first two goals, quality care & accessibility. For our next goal we'll need the help of our community!

Excitedly we've moved into our permanetnt location in downtown Ferguson on July 15th! On October 15th we celebrated our first year anniversary and launched our newest project of expanding into the adjacent unit to our center to begin remodeling for our first birthing suite!! We're also creating a space for our educational classes which will house a communal kitchen, a boutique and a lending library. With your help we can reach our goal of $13,450 by December 31st. With this goal we'll be able to cover initial costs to secure and remodel our birthing suite and communal space.

Having basic expenses covered at CBWC will make sure that every mother in St. Louis North County & City who needs accessiblity to quality midwifery care will receive it with no problem.

Your support means everything to us. CBWC is for the community by the community. This campaign can and will be a complete success if we are able to offer quality education, have an accessible midwifery care clinic in our neighborhood where it should be. Imagine the impact this could make on the quality of our families lives!

We're just so excited to be on this journey to creating change and hope you'll join us. Come by to see us on Prenatal Thursdays between 9am-5pm to chat a bit and to get a feel for our new neighborhood home office!

Many blessings,
From the staff, board, and members of the Community Birth & Wellness Center.
