Horse lovers on Salt Spring Island have come together to work towards creating a permanent community owned space. This will enable all members of the community to benefit from spending time with horses.

Each time the horse community has come together to create a shared space, the space has either been sold or re-purposed. This has caused the horse community to become scattered, and the local Pony Club to shut down hence why we need a community owned permanent space.

Gulf Islands Horsemen's Association is a non-profit registered BC society that aims to establish a community-oriented, public center for horsemanship. We will invite all disciplines to share in the facility such as Western and English riding, Driving, Natural Horsemanship, Equine Facilitated Learning and Therapeutic Riding.

The center will offer educational opportunities for riders of all ages and skill levels. In particular, the center will offer the Equestrian Canada Rider program which provides students rider credits towards their high school diploma.

One of our goals is to provide subsidized lessons and equestrian activities for disadvantaged residents and their families.

The center will be operated mainly by volunteers.

If we can create a community shared space we will be able to hold clinics, events, training and educational camps, therapeutic sessions and much more!

The $6000 we need is for a feasibility study which will insure we can seek funding and community support to build the space. We have already raised  $6000 and we need a total of $12,000 to complete the study.

We would like to complete the study by September this year, the sooner we complete the study, the sooner we can use it to gather support and momentum.
