Community Integration Vehicles

The mission of KSI is to assist people with disabilities in the pursuit meaningful participation in their communities.  KSI as an organization believes that the opportunity to contribute and grow as a person is important to all people, especially people with disabilities. Integration with others in our society helps to give our lives purpose and meaning. Community integration allows us to learn and be successful, and to interact with people in the pursuit of common goals or outcomes. Community integration creates opportunities for choice, education, recreation, and socialization and allows us a chance to discover talents and skills we never knew we had.

The purpose of the Community Integration Program is to create opportunities for people with developmental disabilities to develop and gain the skills necessary to achieve their individualized personal and employment goals, in a community-based setting integrated with people who do not have disabilities.  

The State and Federal Government have mandated that all services be provided in a community integrated setting by March 2019. With this new push, we have expanded our programming to include both volunteer trips and community exploration trips so that our participants can access community integrated activities.

We are in need of (4) mini-vans, (4) 15-passenger vans, (1) Ford Transit Ambulette vehicle, and 3 Chevy Cruze passenger vehicles so that we can move more of our services into the community. The addition of these vehicles would allow an additional 20-40 people per day to access community integrated programming. The Ford Transit will allow our participants with limited mobility to access community integrated activities. The 15-passenger vehicles could be doubly used for our daily routes transporting participants from home to the Skill Development Center or work crew site. This would allow us to cut down on the ride time for these routes.
