Lynn Ellen Schimoler is an amazing woman in need of support. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in March and sadly it metastasized to her bone. Lynn Ellen is a mother and a widow. Her beloved husband Paul died eight years ago of a brain tumor leaving Lynn Ellen as the sole provider of her 11 years old son Jack and her 25 year old daughter Serena.
Lynn Ellen worked in the Natural Products industry for her entire life. Her mother owned a health food store where Lynn Ellen developed her passion for organic, local, sustainable products and building strong communities. Many people know her for her long career at the City Market in Burlington, VT, one of the most successful coops in the entire country where she worked passionately from 2003 until late last year prior to taking a role at the Department of Agriculture.
Sadly, when Lynn Ellen moved to her new role at the Department of Agriculture, she did not qualify for long term disability because one needs to be employed for at least a year to qualify. As a result, her options for paid time off is very limited.
Lynn Ellen has supported so many community organizations and is a current member of the Vermont Diversity and Inclusion Core Team, Northeast Organic Farmer's Association Board of Directors and the Nordic Soccer Vice Chairman of the Board. She also teaches dance at the University of Vermont and was on the National Cooperative Grocers Promotions Management Advisory and Category Management Committees.
Lynn Ellen and Jack have a serious security risk now. The financial burden of treatment, the need to take off from work to care for herself and Jack, combined with the bills related to paying for her home are too much for her right now. She is at risk of losing her home.
Lynn Ellen is so hard working and proud. She would never ask for help but she needs it now more than ever so she can get the rest and comfort she needs to battle cancer and provide security for Jack.
