Ceilidh Currie is a 15 year old Ottawa-born girl who was diagnosed with a rare neurological condition called Status Migrainosus. Status Migrainosus is a severe, long-lasting, and debilitating form of Migraine. It is often referred to as an intractable migraine due to it being so difficult to manage and treat. Status Migrainosus affects less than 1 percent of people who experience migraines. Although the vast majority of migraine attacks are not life threatening, a Status Migraine can be very dangerous and is classified as an emergency. In some rare instances, Status Migraine can result in Migrainous stroke.
Since early October, Ceilidh has suffered from this debilitating condition on a daily basis with no end in sight. She has had stroke like symptoms including but not limited to; facial paralysis, vision problems, speech difficulty, confusion, inability to think straight and ongoing nausea.
Ceilidh has been in and out of CHEO (the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario) working with both the Neurological Team and Acute Pain Team with only minor success before another relapse occurs.
Status Migrainosus is extremely difficult to treat and even hospital medications have very little impact on helping reverse it.
Ceilidh has tried numerous medications with very little success and now needs to look at alternative treatment options. The Ontario Migraine Clinic located in Toronto, Ontario is a world renown clinic who successfully eliminate and reduce the frequency, severity, and duration of migraine attacks while simultaneously reducing the level or impairment in the case of future attacks. Treatment consists of a unique method of eastern acupuncture and has proven to be highly successful and nothing short of amazing.
For his revolutionary work and the success of The Ontario Migraine Clinic, founder Brendan Cleary was awarded the Star of Asia by The Open University of Complementary Medicine in December of 2000, which is given to an individual who most contributes to the field of Complementary Medicine. This is the first time that this award has been given to someone in North America.
Their patients have traveled from all over the world to receive acupuncture treatment from Brendan Cleary with a 90% success rate and we feel this is something that Ceilidh needs to receive in order to rid or reduce the severity of her debilitating condition.
The Clinic was able to get Ceilidh an appointment starting Tuesday, December 18th , 2018 and her treatments will be stacked daily and ongoing for a number of weeks until the middle or end of January.
This treatment is not cheap and approximately $12,000 is needed in order to cover its cost. We are asking very kindly for help from anyone that can afford to donate to this cause to help Ceilidh get back to a regular teenage life having fun with friends and attending school Migraine-free.
Thank you and happy holidays !
