Hi Guys

I apologise in not updating you sooner. You’ll find out why soon. It’s been a busy time working – Yes I’ve gone back to work at Lesmurdie High School. I am still training and I have also welcomed a new edition to the Ashby family.

My beautiful companion dog Xian ( Jarrnn).

Xian is not a pet. She’s a fully trained companion that helps me get here there and every where. It’s been an adjustment to say the least.

I have written a diary about our meeting and our two week introduction before we could settle together back at home in Lesmurdie.

I have included some wonderful pictures which truly capture this special time. Xian will accompany me to the Transplant Games and I will fill you in with news around that soon.

Thank you all for your support and best wishes. I am truly thankful for every one helping me to compete and attend Queensland in Oct for the Transplant Games.

This is another step forward on making this dream a reality.

Day 1 July 10th
Very Excited meeting Xain

Day 4 july 14th
Well feel pretty proud of myself, I manage to find my way to the local swimming pool. About a 17 minute walk and I’ve only done it twice with the trainer. I only had my cane and got in there did my swim and manage to find my way back again as well! So I think I’ve done pretty good for a strange place and my mind mapping navigation system seems to work really well now!

Day 5

Just thought I’d let you guys see where I am living for two weeks. Where in Kensington in one of the old Victorian houses. They’re all beautiful around here, absolutely amazing. Very lucky to be in this beautiful home.

Day 7 July 17th

Well had a very big day today, we did an hour walk along the beautiful river, designed for lots of distracting work for X I a N to deal with. She did very well, there were dogs, people walking with dogs, birds and water which we found out she loves! Then we went after lunch, to the Victoria Street markets, where she wound me in an out of the very busy place. She did extremely well, clever girl. And then we took her to the pool where she is testing to behave properly,

Day 9
Celebratory graduation lunch with Xian and my trainer Brooke who has been fantastic over the last two weeks. I am now officially allowed to drive my Seeing Eye Dog. Thanks Brooke.

Day 10

Well had a very big day in the city today. Started off by going up Hosea lane which is full of amazing graffiti. Then we went along Collins Street and found some beautiful little shops, and two chocolate tears that we had morning tea and chocolate‘s at. Then we went up to the State library to look at the beautiful architecture. And we went up inside and looked around as well. Then we had lunch at Flinders Street in a beautiful little restaurant. Then went across the river, and then found our train back home. It was a fabulous day.

Day 11

Today in the city started off with a tram ride on the city circuit, it was in one of the old original trams and it was narrated as we went around. Then up Collins Street again, and had coffee in one of the little lane ways. Then a beautiful walk down little Flinders Lane which is absolutely gorgeous. And if you notice the dog is having her view at the tram window as well. XX I’m so lucky to be here and having this wonderful little holiday as well.

Day 12
Another fabulous day in Melbourne. Belinda and her lovely daughter Sophie picked me up and we went to Saint Kilda for the day. We stopped out front of the iconic Luna Park and then had morning tea in the cafe strip of Saint Kilda. Since it was national lamington day we had to eat cake didn’t we! Then we did a beautiful walk along the beach and then back to the cafe strip for a delicious lunch. It was the most enjoyable day, I will be sad to go home. It is such a fabulous place Melbourne, I love it.

This is my last post from Melbourne. We enjoyed a beautiful sunny Sunday morning walk around Kensington. And I did the long road along the beautiful picturesque little cottage houses. Then stopped and had a lovely coffee and had a nice chat to some people as well. It has been an absolute wonderful time over here. But I’m looking forward to coming home to all you guys as well. See you when I’m in the flesh. XX

I'll post again very soon.

Well, it's been a couple of months now since the fundraiser began. Thank you to everyone who has already contributed to my fundraising campaign. I am completely blown away with your generosity.

I'll be posting regular updates in here to keep you in the loop with everything that is happening.

For now I wanted to let you know that I am celebrating. I'm officially entered and ready to go.

The events I am competing in are the 50m in backstroke, breaststroke, and freestyle. I'm also in the 100m freestyle and backstroke.

I've increased my training to 4-5 times and as a result I increased my swimming distance to 2km's. I'm also doing some shorter swim sessions to increase my speed.

I've joined the local gym and they've designed a training program for me to increase my cardio strength.

Yoga has also been a regular go to exercise for me, especially over the past year. I find it beneficial as it keeps me flexible. It also helps me to stay calm and increases my sense of well-being. I practise at home a couple of times a week, especially if I can't get to the yoga sessions.

That's it from me for now. I wanted to keep this short and simple and include a big thank you for your support so far.

I'd love it if my family could come and join me and see me compete in the transplant games in October. I'd be so grateful if you could share this far and wide. Every dollar counts and I really appreciate your support.

Until next time, keep well everyone
