A Cure for Colin

Donation protected
For 19 years we have searched for answers to Colin Fardy's ongoing medical saga and for 19 years Colin has continued to be an enigma.  We have sought out the best doctors in the world and he has been tested for illnesses most have never heard of.  It has come to the point that Colin no longer safely be out of the house in a crowd.  Colin has been told that he cannot safely travel or attend college other than in an online environment.  Colin currently spends days in his room and only leaves the house to visit the lab or for a doctor appointment.  When we reached the conclusion that we may never have a name for what is ailing Colin we decided to look for a doctor who would be willing to come up with a plan to treat him instead.

We have found our man, Dr. Mojitaba Ahktari at USC Keck in Los Angeles has studied Colin's case and reasoned that perhaps the one thing that Colin could benefit from would be an allogenic bone marrow transplant.  The transplant would enable Colin's immune system to be rebuilt, therefore allowing Colin to have a normal life outside of this house.  He would potentially be able to have a completely normal life following recovery.

We are aware that with such benefits come challenges and the potential for loss of life.  Colin understands completely what he has chosen to undergo in an attempt to live a full life.

Unfortunately for our family this means that Colin, his brother Sam and I will have to live in Los Angeles to have this procedure and remain in California until it is safe for him to travel back to New Hampshire.  We are looking at a minimum of three months, more likely to be six months at least.  During the actual bone marrow transplant Erik will be in California for three weeks, after this initial period Erik will have to return to New Hampshire as he is self employed and we cannot get by without his income.  We do have insurance that will be paying a portion of our expenses, however it will not cover travel expenses for Erik to come to Los Angeles to be with his family, housing for Sam and I while Colin is in the hospital or the majority of our daily living expenses.

We have not wanted to ask for help until it became increasingly clear that we will not get by without doing so.
