Motor City Veterans Hockey Association

Tax deductible
The Motor City Veterans Hockey Association was established in 2017 by a group of veterans with a desire to use the sport of hockey to help veterans throughout the community. They provide veterans and family members of all experience and ability the opportunity to develop their hockey skills and take part in outreach activities. In working with combat veterans, especially those with "Invisible Wounds" of PTSD and TBI, it is imperative that the family be an integral part of the healing process. With that knowledge, the Motor City Veterans Hockey Association was created to include family members, caregivers, and active support members as participants.

The Center for Neurological Studies in Novi, MI has partnered with the MCVHA because more than 80% of the MCVHA members are veterans with disabilities. CNS is currently running a 30-person research program to study better detection of TBIs in our service members. So this was a natural partnership.

An additional 15% of team is comprised of supporting members and 5% are active-duty military. Additionally, the team is staffed with several USA Hockey coaches, as well as a clinical psychologist doctor specializing in PTSD and TBI that serves as a player/coach. The MCVHA was created to help with the education, awareness and advocacy for our veterans dealing with both physical trauma rehabilitation, as well as recovery from “Invisible Wounds” of war. Playing hockey is great, but for our players, it is as much about
helping serve their as it is having fun and enjoying each other’s companionship.

How you can help: we are currently planning multi-day trips for the “Warrior” team, comprised of nearly 40 veterans with disabilities, to participate in tournaments in Minneapolis and Tampa. The team's expenses are expected to average about $8,000 each tournament, which is about $500 per player. This amount will cover travel, lodging, entry fees, and other associated team expenses for 16 players and coaches per tournament. Your donation will help us include more veterans and their families. All the money you donate is 100% tax deductible and 100% appreciated by the veterans and their families.
