Robotic CNC Machine | CNC Beyond

Don protégé
As part of our thesis project, a group of four mechanical engineering students are tackling the problem of portability and accessibility in CNC machining.

By the end of April 2018, we will create at least one working prototype of a robotic, automated tool. Our aim is to provide a way for artists, makers, and manufacturers lacking floor space to cut light-weight material (wood) without being limited by frame size, or other boundary constraints. The machine will climb on the workpiece or work table - free flowing to allow cutting in any direction and shape - as inputed through standard computer generated drawings.

Unlike traditional fixed CNC machines, this will be light-weight and carryable with a standard power supply cord. Simply place the machine on the workpiece and it will follow a path to cut out complex, creative designs - with size limited only by the length of the cord!

Some materials are already acquired, but to build this prototype we still need to source:

- Stepper Motors
-Spindle
-End mill bits
-Microstep Drivers
-Encoders
