Hi!
I am a 24 year old model and bartender suffering from epilepsy. I grew up having neurological issues, however, I had only had one confirmed seizure due to fever when I was 20. Two years ago I was rear ended in a hit and run. Upon arriving at the hospital I was not given a CT nor an MRI despite being obviously concussed after hitting my head into the windshield. About 18 months post car wreck (January of this year), I began having full blown seizures. Needless to say, my life was turned upside down. I eventually had to stop working and had no ability to return to school. It was a harsh reality to be diagnosed with a disability of this nature at 24. My license was revoked and I was discouraged from spending time alone, something I have always cherished.
I have now been diagnosed and medicated for almost 9 months, although I have seen a drastic reduction in seizures, I still have about 3-7 a month and experience days which mobility and speech is an issue for me. I have been planning on going back to school in January, however am having extreme anxiety about being alone in a crowd of people who may not know what to do when I have a seizure. Seizures aren't pretty, and typically scare the crap out of people in real life. All of this being said, I feel a seizure Response Dog would be extremely beneficial to my quality of life and independence. I plan on purchasing a well bred German shepherd and training it with the help of the dog trainer who lives across the street from me! I am very excited to venture into this journey to renew my security in being independent. Not having the ability to securely walk down the street or go to the grocery store by myself has been one of the most difficult things about this time in my life. Having a furry friend that knows exactly what to do and how to respond will be a game changer. Every donation helps! I will be saving money myself as well.
