My name is Anna and I am mother of three boys who were diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. The disorder interferes with their social, language and physical development.
My older son, Matthew is 4 years old; Owen and Daniel are twins 3 years old. We currently live in essex county nj. My boys are not aggressive at all often I hear the negative comments toward my children on playgrounds or other public places. They cannot speak (nonverbal) but are making loud sounds to communicate. They like to run around flipping and clapping hands. Most of the time they are not aware of their environment and people in it. I know that my children are significantly delayed in many social and intellectual areas but they are my children whom I love and care so much. Like other children, they smile and laugh when they are happy and cry when hurt.
It is painful and fearful for me to think about their future. What I want for them is just to be accepted in our society, to be heard and understood, not by their voices but through sign language, communication devices, and treated with warm and open acceptance by other children and adults.
My boys are receiving early intervention therapy now and it’s proven fact for children with Autism that the earlier the therapy commences the better the outcome a child with the disorder will have. But state insurance currently does not cover many of their needed treatments. So I am trying to find funds to provide my children with the therapy they desperately need. Aba, speech and feeding therapy.
I would be appreciative of any help and assure you that every penny will be spent only on my boys to make a brighter and happier future.
