Student Nurse- International Placement to Cambodia
Donation protected
Hello my name is Daniel Riley and I’m currently in 2nd year at Teesside University studying Adult Nursing. I have been given an amazing opportunity to travel to Cambodia and work in Battambang hospital for 2 weeks.
Unfortunately, the trip is not funded by the university and I need some help raising the funds required so I can fly over there in July 2019.
I will be traveling with the charity Transform Healthcare Cambodia. This is a UK based charity and was established in 2011with the help of government funding. Their aim is to relieve sickness and to promote and protect good health for the benefit of the public.
Cambodia is a small country in South East Asia and in 1975 a dictator named Pol Pot, led a group of forces into Phnom Penh killing almost 2 million people over a 4 year period. The Khmer Rouge murdered intellectuals leaving the health care system non-existent, with only 10-20 healthcare professionals in the entire country.
They have since began rebuilding their cities, however this is very slow and as a result they have a very poor healthcare.
It will be an great learning experience to see a third world healthcare system and how it compares to our NHS which many of us are guilty of taking for granted.
Our aim is to offer a fresh perspective, enabling growth and development in understanding medical and nursing ethics in challenging environments.
If you can’t make a donation can you please
