City at a Crossroads documentary

City at a Crossroads is a documentary about the evolution of Portland, Maine and how its residents and economy are affected by the changing landscape. 

Portland's remarkable history includes moments of destruction and collapse as well as periods of remarkable growth and prosperity.

In this documentary we will examine the pros and cons of past, present and future projects as seen by supporters and opponents. We will present the debate occurring today among Portland's citizens, civic leaders and developers. Working class citizens are finding it increasingly difficult to find affordable housing within city limits, forcing many to move to surrounding towns. Business owners fear that if development is stunted, the city and future generations will suffer. 

While this film focuses on Portland, it is really a microchosm of the change affecting cities all over the United States. Gentrification, development, urban renewal, and rent stabilization - these are the things that citizens and businesses in every city have to grapple with. Our goal is to present fair and balanced arguments from across the spectrum of voices - residents, business owners, activists, city officials - and ultimately get to the heart of what makes Portland great and how to embrace the change that it needs to grow.

We already have many of the interviews and b-roll footage we need to make this documentary a reality, but we need your help! This film will maintain a fairly low budget, but in order to make the best quality film possible, we need time and funding for more shooting and editing. With your help we will be able to tell this important and increasingly relevant story. Thank you!
