Cinnamon Needs Our Help

Donation protected
Here at GSHS, if there is any hope that an animal can be saved, WE. WILL. NOT. GIVE. UP. There may be no better proof of this than Cinnamon. Our sweet girl has completely torn one ACL and partially torn the other. We have been told that her right ACL must be repaired immediately and that the other should be done as soon as possible after she recovers from the first surgery. We need your help to ensure that she will be pain-free as she gets older.

This is Cinnamon's story. ❤️

Cinnamon first came to us as a terrified ten month old puppy that had lived her whole life on a four foot chain back-tied to a pole in a dirt filled yard. She never knew what it felt like to be hugged or snuggled or kissed. Yet despite all of that, from the moment she stepped foot into our facility all Cinnamon wanted to do was give love. And we were happy to shower her with it in return.

Cin was always a bit nervous around other dogs though and as fate would have it she had a horrible experience that impacted her behavior forever. One morning while a staff member was taking her for a walk, another much larger dog got loose and attacked her from behind. From that moment on Cinnamon decided she could not trust other animals and that she would always have to be on the defense. This of course made it a bit more difficult to place her in a home even though we all knew there had to be a family out there for her.

The day she started limping on her back leg was the day our hearts stopped because we knew instantly what it was. Cinnamon always loved to jump...she could jump five feet in the air like it was nothing. We always worried about her ACL's given her energy and breed and it turned out that is exactly what it was. We thought a rescue might be a better fit for Cinnamon given the surgical costs, recovery period and not wanting her to have to be back in a shelter environment until she was adopted. So we begged. Begged every rescue we knew to see how special she is and take her in.

We were overjoyed the day she was accepted into a facility in New York. We cried the day she left but hugged one another knowing that we were doing what was best for our girl. When we got the first update that she was depressed and withdrawn our hearts sank. She wasn't eating or playing and wasn't being her affectionate self. Instantly we knew something wasn't right and the last thing any of us wanted was to see her unhappy.

So again, we begged. And we found her placement with a first class facility in the mid-west. Off she went! We all joked that she was acting depressed in New York because she loved to travel so much and just wanted to see more of the country. Our girl LOVES to ride!! It was love at first sight when she arrived at her new rescue. The staff couldn't even bring themselves to put her in a kennel...she was to live in the offices with them. She was seen by the doctor and passed her human behavioral evaluation with flying colors. But then somebody made an awful mistake and let a loose dog in the room where Cinnamon was sleeping. Neither were seriously hurt but the staff was told that she could no longer stay.

GSHS did the only thing we could do. We brought Cinnamon back home. It turns out this is where she was supposed to be all along..with the people who love her more than words can possibly say. Along her travels Cinnamon has made so many friends and experienced so many wonderful things and at only 2 years old we know she has so much love left to give. Her caretaker in Kansas said it so beautifully - "I've never known a dog with so much soul that she gazes at the stars". This angel is so much more than a dog to us here at GSHS, she is a part of our family. We know that there is the perfect forever family waiting out there for her and we want to make sure that she is healthy and happy when the time comes to meet them.
