CI Teacher Training

Donation protected
I have been invited to take part in a program this June for teacher training. I will be spending five days with other teachers working on developing activities and strategies for both our own classes and to present to other teachers looking to incorporate comprehensible input (CI). While this program is officially titled a “training prep course” and my goal is to come away with an understanding of how to help teachers understand SLA and incorporate CI activities into their curricula, the exercises we will do will also enhance my own teaching.  It is a full week of designing or enhancing a TCI training program, and this will allow me to build and strengthen my community of CI colleagues. I have two friends who teach FLES in the Upper Valley with whom I talk regularly, and we spend time in each others’ classrooms. I am excited to think that I will be able to coach them more effectively and learn from them simultaneously.
I am so excited to have this chance, and with your support, it will make it easier for me to participate in this activity. I do a lot of professional development, and I cannot remember a year when I have had any PD money left at the end of the year. This opportunity presented itself late in this fiscal year, and I have no funds from my school to pay for this program.

COST:
$900 for registration and room
$240 for 6 days of food
$225 for travel

I hope to raise the funds before the retreat begins at the end of June, and ideally I would like to raise enough for the registration ASAP to reimburse myself.

My goal in participating in this retreat is simple: to leave with a stronger sense of effective and innovative approaches to second language learning by engaging in meaningful conversations and sharing ideas. I want to walk away from the retreat with a stronger sense how one can train teachers in effective CI instruction. I am extremely passionate about CI and am constantly reflecting upon and refining my pedagogy. I want to provide other teachers with that sense of power and eagerness to experiment and try new things. I am always looking for new ways to share my enthusiasm and ideas with other teachers, and am thrilled about the opportunity to work with new colleagues and learn the best ways to educate other teachers in CI. I already have a deep understanding of strategies specific to CI methodology, but these five days will allow me to gain a better sense of how to help teachers implement them. In addition, I am looking forward to learning from other retreat attendees, as I find meaningful and intense conversations that last over multiple days one of the best ways of restoring my teaching.
