Chuck Woodford Recovery Support Fund

Anyone who knows Chuck Woodford would describe him as a great example of what a husband, dad, friend, and worker should be. For most of us, July 5th, 2018 was just the day after the 4th of July celebrations and back to work. Not so for Chuck. The early morning of the 5th almost took his life and ultimately changed his life forever.

Chuck started to struggle to breath that day maybe due to a clot to the heart but we probably we will never know. He was taken to Winona hospital after having CPR by his wife for about 30 minutes, paddled at least 5 times by paramedics, and then helicoptered to Mayo from Winona due to the critical nature of his condition.

Days of struggling to live, and months of therapy due to severe brain damage followed. He has had to relearn to walk, partially talk, drink, and eat.  All things we just take for granted.  After getting as much care as he could get from Mayo and Bethesda he was sent to a transition care unit.   Due to the way his evaluation was written up the TCU was the only facility close to his home that would take him. During his stay there Ann did much of his care, bathing, dressing, changing, and feeding him.

Continued long term nursing care was going to cost them $12-20,000/month.  Doctors, nurses, and staff stated that home care would be very difficult and hard on Ann, but she still made the decision to take Chuck home on November 27th—145 days after the nightmare began.

Now during all this time many things happened. Because Chuck had no health directive, Ann had to hire an attorney to petition the court for guardianship of Chuck.  It doesn’t sound like a big deal but without it, even though she is his wife, she was not able to file insurance, social security disabilities, or any kind of forms that she needed to get help for Chuck. Even the hospital would not give her information to give to these places.  Sounds CRAZY, but it’s true.

So, with attorney bills, court costs, having to take a leave of absence from work to oversee his care, and a deer totaling her car, it’s time to try and help.  We are trying to get her enough money for a good down payment on a good Van or SUV that will accommodate Chuck with his height and disabilities.

This has been a nightmare that no one could ever foresee and we as a family are asking for any help that you can give to aid in getting this vehicle.
