Help Chuck Jacks During Medical Crisis

Donation protected
Why we have started this campaign:

Chuck Jacks was admitted to the ICU at St. Clair Hospital Saturday March 2nd with a (undiagnosed at the time) Diabetes-related medical crisis. He was admitted with a blood sugar level of 1200 - in a near-comatose state. If it was not for the love and fast-thinking actions of his friends who brought Chuck to the ER, the doctors have informed us that he would not have made it. He narrowly avoided death and has been in critical condition all week.

Chuck went into total renal failure that night, and is currently still undergoing dialysis to keep him alive. Over the last week, he has been intubated, relying on a ventilator to keep him breathing. He has also faced a septic lung infection, as well as dangerous blood pressure and sodium levels.

Our entire family are grateful to and in the debt of the dedicated, caring staff at St. Clair Hospital - thanks to their life-saving efforts, Chuck is no longer in ICU.  He has been taken off the ventilator, and his levels are no longer critical. However, he remains in total renal failure, and at this time it is unknown whether his kidneys will bounce back. Chuck might be facing life-long weekly dialysis, and even a potential kidney transplant.

The medical bills from this week’s hospital stay alone will be an almost insurmountable challenge for Chuck.  Furthermore, we are devastated by the effect that this crisis will have on Chuck’s livelihood. He is a talented trombone player with a passion for both the music he loves to play and the students he loves to teach.

We humbly ask for and appreciate any donations you are able to give. Your gift will not only help Chuck to conquer the overwhelming medical debt he faces, but also help him make ends meet until he can return to performing and teaching.

Your support - and your prayers - will mean the world to Chuck and our entire family.

We also urge you and your loved ones to visit your doctor regularly for check-ups. Chuck was not even aware that he had diabetes, and we hope that from this crisis some good may come in raising awareness of the warning signs of this incredibly serious disease. (www.diabetes.org )

Thank you.
