Chuck Chongaway’s liver transplant

My father Chuck Chongaway, became ill in October 2017. It was in February that we received the official cause of his failing health, liver failure. Over the year my family watched my dad’s health decline. He had to quit his job and give up most things he enjoyed doing. My dad was a very active man and it’s been hard to watch him unable to do the things he loves like boating, fishing, hunting, riding his motorcycle and traveling. Those who know my dad know he is a wonderful man, with a huge heart and would do anything for anyone in need.  He is active in the AA Community offering support and encouragement to others while receiving the same for himself. With nearly 37 years of sobriety he is an inspiration to many! 

The Sunday following Thanksgiving, my dad received the call we had all been waiting for. The greatest gift our family could ask for this holiday season, a liver. On November 26th he underwent a liver transplant at the UW Medical Center. To this day he is recovering well. He is required to stay in Seattle for 3 months following the transplant, meeting with doctors’ multiple times a week. As many of you may be aware the expense of housing in Seattle is much greater than their small town in Idaho. The medical bills, travel expenses as well as the expense of maintaining essentially two homes is adding up. Their medical insurance doesn’t cover their travel expenses or the additional cost of their second residence in Seattle, which is the reason I am reaching out for help.

Any contribution is greatly appreciated and will help ensure that my dad can focus on recovering without the stress of how to make ends meet. I am forever thankful and grateful for the donor and their family and for all the love, support and prayers my family has received during all this.
