Christmas In Potters Bar

£379 of £2,000 goal

Raised by 21 people in 10 months
2017 was the first year in over 20 years where Potters Bar didn’t have a display of Christmas lights. The town simply didn’t have a group or organisation to take on the task. Many of the local community were saddened and their thoughts made clear via social media and local newspaper articles, children were disappointed, and Potters Bar was in the dark.

Cllr John Graham called a town meeting in February 2018 and in response over 40 people attended. From this meeting we have set up a community group run by residents and chaired by a local mum of two small children 3 years and 8 months. Our group is attended by around 20 members monthly with all different skills and contacts in the community.

Our aim is to brighten up Potters Bar again for Christmas, to fundraise £10,000 a year to ensure our community shines bright.  We will install Christmas lights in our two main roads of Potters Bar, Darkes Lane where we have our train station and at the High Street. These routes are our main community hubs and most school children, workers, commuters, parents and residents will walk or drive these routes in Potters Bar daily to enjoy the lights.

We have a Facebook page dedicated to ‘Christmas in Potters Bar’ and we recently had a front-page article about our new group on the front page of the Welwyn Hatfield Times (Potters Bar Edition, Wednesday 11th April 2018)

In celebration of our community fundraising efforts each year we will run a community celebration event, the first being the 8th of December 2018 next to Oakmere Park in Potters Bar High Street.
