Help Me get to Winter Tangerine!!

Donation protected
I am a poet and essayist.

I am also a filmmaker.

But not at the same time.

I got into the Winter Tangerine November Workshop! But I need your help getting there!

What is WINTER TANGERINE?
www.wintertangerine.com - check it OUT (writers, submit!)

"Winter Tangerine is a literary & arts magazine dedicated to the electric.

We aim to disrupt the status quo. To amplify the unheard. To account for the unaccounted. To publish the unconventional, confront the uncomfortable, marvel in the mundane. We crave bitter honey and expired sweets.

We believe in the power of art. We won't apologize.
We want lightning.

So go ahead: ignite."

COOL, Right?

Winter Tangering  is a huge uplift of marginalized voices and a platform and preservation of LGBTQPOC+ Voices — all those of us who need to be heard, now. URGENTLY.

Here is a breakdown of what your donation would help cover:

A little about myself

I spent ten years in the film industry producing and nurturing the stories and visions of other artists. I love doing this, still. People and Creativity excites me to no end; and providing space/platform for it is very gratifying.  HOWEVER I stifled my own love of words and expression because I was scared of myself.  Now I'm back, after a decade, armed with pen and paper (and laptop). I'm starting a new life; one that I know I can be proud of - a creative life that I forge and nurture on my own. And everyday a stronger and sturdier foundation of love and support from my community. (y'all)

I have shown work at various festivals including the Sundance Film Festival, Art Basel, and in museums at home and abroad. You can find my writing in publications including: The Rumpus, sPARKLE+bLINK, Columbia Journal, Story Online, Atlas And Alice, Apogee, The Brooklyn Quarterly and various anthologies. I am a cohort of the Kearny Street Workshop Interdisciplinary Writers Lab, a VONA/Voices Fellow, Pushcart Prize and Best of The Net 2017 Nominee.

I am the host of Nomadic Press’s monthly reading series GET LIT and a board member/curator with Quiet Lightning, a very active San Francisco based literary non-profit. Last year we put on 14 literary events in 12 months.

I am a proponent of ridding the stigma surrounding mental health, acknowledging radical vulnerability as strength, fostering community as family; and I believe that Magic exists in strange places.

There is trauma in my work, and thus far my work as a poet has been to look at these "monsters" of my past/unpack them. Now, I have *new* monsters / a thematic revival that I haven't even begun to address.

Recently, HUGE events have transpired - personally and globally- that we are all being forced to look at - for better or worse - myself included. It is time to confront this toxic milleu head on.

This part of the WT workshop description sucked me in: “We won't teach you how to write: instead, we want to collectively build new lenses meant to create dynamic readings and writings.” Cool, right?

NEW LENSES, a new pivot, a rotation of focus on things that were once outside, in; and inside, out.
Monsters reside in those places. But, so does magic.

Monsters. Please help me vanquish monsters.
Please help me discover, mine, and nurture the Magic.

Because we are artists, writers. This is precisely what we do. This is why we are here.

Thank You,
Christine
