Chris's Guillain Barre recovery
Donation protected
Waking on Christmas Eve 2016, life changed for Chris and Chelsea McEncroe. Chris woke, unable to move his arms and legs. Thanks to quick work by Dunsborough St John’s ambulance, Staff at Busselton Emergency Department and the Royal Flying Doctor Service, Chris was urgently transferred to Fiona Stanley Hospital with a diagnosis of Guillain Barre Syndrome, a rare disorder where your immune system attacks your peripheral nervous system. After complications, Chris was intubated, ventilated and remains in the ICU.
Christmas was quickly forgotten as family rallied around to support Chelsea and Chris at this terrifying time.
Currently Chris remains in ICU, unable to move from the neck down, waiting on a ventilated bed in the Rehabilitation Ward.
Chris and Chelsea have been told to expect Chris to be in hospital for 6 to 12 months.
The best news in this story is that Chris is expected to make a good recovery with time and excellent rehabilitation.
As friends and family we want to do something to ease the financial burden of an extensive hospitalisation and rehabilitation. This page has been setup for anyone wishing to make a contribution to help Chelsea, Chris and their gorgeous girls over the coming months as the face the difficult road to recovery. Any assistance you are able to offer will be put towards ensuring Chris makes the best recovery possible and that Chelsea is able to focus on supporting Chris and caring for their children. Your compassion and support is gratefully received.
