Family in Need of Support

Donation protected
Chris Andreassi started work at UCSF, Mt. Zion, in May 2016 as a Research Financial Analyst contractor, converting to a full time employee in June 2016. Chris supports the Hem/BMT and MMTI programs for the Hematology/Oncology Division in the UCSF Department of Medicine.

On Wednesday August 24, 2016, while biking home from work, Chris was in a bike accident in San Francisco that shattered half of his face.

He was biking down the hill (Post/Union Square) to the Ferry Building, when a car in front of him took an unexpected left turn without signaling. Chris tried to avoid hitting the car, hit the trolley tracks instead, and went flying.

Following the accident he was in such a state of shock that he managed to get to the ferry and bike home (he lives in Alameda). Only after getting home did he start to realize how badly he might be injured, especially as blowing his nose puffs his face out like a balloon.

His wife took him to the emergency room at Alameda hospital; he was then transferred to Stanford Trauma Center. Thankfully, Chris was wearing his helmet and his brain is intact (sic!), but he has multiple facial fractures (orbital wall fracture, closed fracture of zygomatic arch...) and requires reconstructive plastic surgery within a week to reconstruct the sinus passage ways.

As Chris is a new employee with UCSF, he has only earned two sick/vacation days that will not cover the time he will need to recover from these injuries and the surgery. Unfortunately, as a new employee, he is not able to take donations of time to help him cover these lost days at work.

At this time, Chris is the single provider for his family: his wife has just recently started a non-profit, Captain Kid . He has two young children.

We ask that you contribute anything you can to help cover the unpaid time for which Chris will be out and the medical bills he is incurring.

Chris and his family are extremely thankful for all the kind wishes and support.
