Chris Godber Gospel EP 2018

Thank you for stopping by.  I'm saxophonist, Chris Godber. Many of you may know me from hearing my music Pandora, Slacker, Spotify, XM Sirius Watercolors or your favorite FM Smooth Jazz station. (If not check out my music here: www.chrisgodber.com) Some might have thought that by being on those platforms I was on a record label. I'm actually an Independent Artist aka Indie Artist, meaning that I'm totally self funded.  I don't have a manager, booking agent or financial benefactor. I've said it time and time again, The Best part of being an Indie Artist is that there's no one telling you what to do or when and how to do it. The flip side is, there's no one telling you what to do, or when and how to do it! That was difficult in my early years as the music business has a steep learning curve. 5 albums into this thing though I've learned a lot along the way and am constantly adding to that.


Production, studio time and paying musicians all add up in addition to post production, mixing and mastering. What's more, you can have the most amazing record imaginable, but without good marketing, no-one will hear it. So when you think you're done, you've just gotten started as good marketing costs at least as much (but usually more) than the album production itself.  It's very much like buying a brand new car, except you don't get those financing options. Everyone wants their $$ up front before they go to work.  A lot of your favorite artists don't have to worry about this stuff as the record label fronts it. As an Independent Artist, however, I don't have such luxuries. There's an old saying, "It takes money to make money" As a husband and father providing for my family and balancing playing music and making music while putting food on the table I can attest to the difficulty and truth to that statement!

I've been working on a Gospel EP titled, "Instrument of Worship" coming out in Mid 2018 for my church folks. I play a lot of churches sharing my testimony of overcoming asthma to play the saxophone through God's Grace and this is something I've always wanted to do.
