Chris and Patti Carnes

Donation protected
On the weekend of March 25th, 2017, Chris & Patti Carnes of Whitesburg, Ga. opened up their home to a friend and fellow church member who was having some on-going marital issues. She needed some time to be encouraged and a safe haven to rest. Throughout the weekend Chris continued to engage and encourage her husband to work towards resolving the issues in their marriage.

In the early morning hours of Sunday, March 26th the husband came to the Carnes' home and became confrontational. Despite Chris' pleas for calm the husband produced a firearm and began to fire indiscriminately at the Carnes family. Chris received multiple gunshot wounds, his wife, Patti, was struck once, and his daughter, Katie, narrowly escaped injury as she felt the bullets pass by.

Chris and Patti were transported to Grady Trauma Center in Atlanta, GA, fifty miles from their home, where Chris went through 10 hrs of surgery for his wounds and an additional surgery the following day for an arm fracture. He is in the Intensive Care Unit.

The Carnes Family are "salt of the earth" people, involved in church and community projects and ministry. There has been a great outpouring of love and support for this family from their friends, family and community and many have been asking how to help financially.

The Carnes' have insurance, but we know there will be large deductibles and copays for the extensive surgeries, ICU stay, rehab, lost wages and other unforeseen expenses. This GoFund Me page is being established by their friends as a way for all those who have expressed the desire to help to do so.

In the spirit of who they are, any funds above and beyond their expenses with be donated to the local Women's Shelter. The Carnes' would like to continue to speak of the grave importance of being able to safely transition out of an abusive home situation into a safe haven. The Carnes' would also like to praise God for His ability to turn even the most horrible situations into those that show His profound grace and love. In an inescapable darkness, He has provided a light that is so bright that even the darkest of dark cannot overcome it. Please continue to pray for and support this family.
