The adventurous journey with the Duke of Edinburgh is one of the four sections that must be completed for each award. I am currently working on my Bronze level.  Its objective is to encourage a spirit of adventure & discovery, an understanding & appreciation of the natural environment, & the importance of working together in a team.

I am trying to raise money to be able to complete this journey with the dog sledding expedition. I have a paper route and between that, and trying to fund raise I am hoping to be able to do my Adventurous Journey in March 2019.

I have a goal to advance my level of knowledge, skill, and experience in addition to having a new experience and an adventure to keep with me for a lifetime. This is an amazing opportunity for me to learn the skills necessary to enjoy the Canadian winter, and to develop a working relationship with a team of sled dogs as I travel through the Algonquin wilderness. I will be doing a practice journey in September to prepare for this adventure and be as ready as I possibly can.

As part of the adventurous journey I am required to plan, itemize expenses, factor in travel costs and basically plan this adventure with minimal adult help. The trip is located in South River Ontario and is about a 5 hour trip by car each way, door to door.  The cost of the 3-day trip with taxes is 766.14, however I will require some winter weather gear to make this journey. I am trying to raise 850.00 to ensure I have enough for the trip, winter weather gear suitable for dog sledding and to pay for a portion of the gas to transport me to and from South River.
For example, Warm Feet = Happy Feet = Happy Dog Sledding!
Warm boots with removable wool liners (like a snowmobile boot, the big clunky ones) is the most appropriate boots to wear. If we do not have appropriate boots then we can not participate. They recommend layering, 3 layers in fact.  They highly recommend a - Base Layer: This layer is next to your skin. It is important to wear something that will keep
moisture away from your skin’s surface. A synthetic material works best: polypro/wool blends,
wool, or silk material that we purchase as thermal underwear.
Mid Layers: This is your insulating layer, sweaters. Avoid cotton at all costs as it will not dry.
when wet; jeans/denim are not acceptable. Wool, fleece, and down or synthetics are preferable.
Outer Layer: This layer is key to block out wind, wet and snow. This layer should be water resistant.
So as you can see there is a lot I need to prepare for.

I've never really fund raised anything for myself before so I am a bit nervous in asking but I have faith that I will be successful in reaching my goal with a little bit of help. I would be so appreciative of any support you can help with. I'll post pictures and updates for everyone to see my progress.
Thank you in advanced for any support you can afford.
