Help Cheryl Kick Cancer to the Curb

Donation protected
My name is Lindsay.  I am 35 and my mom is my best friend.  She will never give up on me and I will never give up on her.  I feel it is time for me to help her through her cancer diagnosis, but I need your help. It is my hope that by creating her CaringBridge, GoFundMe, and You Caring pages we can help her now when she needs it most.

After going to the doctor and discovering she was bleeding internally, my mom was diagnosed with colon cancer.  She's having surgery on Tuesday, October 18th, to have her cecum, ascending colon (both at the beginning of the large intestine and runs up the right side) and one third of her transverse colon removed.  (The transverse colon is the part of the large intestine that runs along the top.)  Her ileum (the end of the small intestine) will then be reattached to the remaining tranverse colon.  This is a hard surgery to go through.  We will not know what stage the cancer will be or if she'll need chemotherapy afterwards.

We have a strong faith in God and that He will bring her through. The finances are the issue.

Her insurance was accidentally to an HRA (Health Reimbusment Act) this year.  Instead of only paying co-pays until she reaches her deductible, she now has to pay 20% upfront before she receives any medical care. This has been a huge financial strain on her and my dad's fixed income. Not only does she have to pay this money upfront, she is still is responsible for the remaining portion of the bill once the insurance pays their part. Because she only has 18 sick days left at work, she will have to rely on the income of my father who is on Social Security. There will be a three week gap of no income once her sick days are gone until she is eligible to take days out of the sick leave bank at work. During that gap of no income her health insurance premium that is normally paid for by her employer will now be her financial responsibity. However, she will have no income to deduct it from.

I care greatly for my mom and her well-being is of my upmost importance.  I'm hoping enough people donate so we can reach our goal of $10,000 to pay for her out-of-pocket expenses. She's already paid out of pocket for her cardiologist (who diagnosed the anemia through lab work), her Primary Care Doctor and further labs tests, the Gastroenterologist and the hospital where the endoscopy and colonoscopy were performed in case she needed a blood transfusion, the echocardiogram of her heart, the CT with contrast to determine if the cancer had spread, and she still has to pay for the surgeon and hospital stay by Monday the 17th. That money doesn't incude the Operating Room and Anestheologist's bill . My mom will have to stay in the hospital at least one week if everything goes well. She has to pay 20% of that cost up front until the insurance pays their portion. Once the claims are paid by the insurance, she will be resposible for the remaining balance.

If she has to stay in the hospital longer or if she needs chemotherapy, she has to pay for 20% of that upfront, too, along with the remaining balance the insurance doesn't cover.

We have a strong faith in God and we know her cancer will be cured.  God will guide the doctors' hands and provide the right medicine.  He will heal her body.

We hope and pray we can cover her medical expenses. Financial help from family, friends, and acquaintances would be the miracle that could get us through.

Thank you for your help, whether it's through kind words and encouragement, a hug, phone call, or a visit.  Thank you if you can contribute monetarily.  It means a lot that me that you care for my best friend as much as I do.
