Chenango Forks Costa Rica Club 2020

We are a group of students and teachers from a small suburban school in upstate New York raising money for a class and trip to help us learn more about the world beyond our town, specifically about Costa Rica.
Our class will meet daily throughout the 2019-2020 school year and will focus on a variety of topics related to Costa Rica. We will learn about culture, language, history and scientific topics such as tropical ecology and geology.
As a part of the course, we will each choose topics for in-depth project based-learning. We will make connections with experts in these topics and will do research throughout the year and during our trip to Costa Rica in the spring.
While in Costa Rica, we'll spend time with students and families that we have met and communicated with throughout the year, we'll do a service project to help build biological corridors to preserve land for wildlife, and we'll have a multitude of experiences to help us learn more about the topics that we have chosen to explore.
This is the second time that this course will be offered in our district. Our school has limited diversity and many of our students don't often get a chance to experience the world beyond our community. However, some of the students who took the course the first time include a student who is now Spanish major who returned to Costa Rica to stay with a family, another student who is now an Anthropology/Latin American studies major who has traveled to Europe and is currently studying abroad in Spain and another graduate who is currently hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu! Another student will be graduating this June and hopes to study Marine Biology in Costa Rica in the future. This is evidence that the course and trip have been highly motivating to students and have influenced their futures in many ways.
We would greatly appreciate if you would consider contributing to our group so that we can enable more students to explore and learn about not only Costa Rica, but also themselves. Your donations would go directly to our students' costs for travel. If there is a specific student that you wish to support, you can mention that in your comments when donating.
