GP, RW Pellburn Jacoby Stealin Home, also known as Jake the Strollercat, has lymphoma and the bills for his chemotherapy are exceeding what his insurance will cover.

Jacoby is a very special Abyssinian. He is a retired CFA and FIFe show cat (winning 21st best cat in Premiership in the Northeast Region in 2015, as well as 8th and 10th best Abyssinian in Premiership in 2015 & 2016 in CFA worldwide), but he was also a certified therapy cat with Pet Partners for many years. He was presented with the prestigious Scarlett Cat of the Year award by the Westchester Cat Club for his therapy work with first responders after the Boston Marathon bombings in 2013. He also gained local infamy in Boston for riding the T in his stroller.

In 2016, Jake moved to Sweden, still travelling in his stroller to cat shows around Europe.

Jacoby is well known to his fans who have been following his adventures online for since 2009 (he turns 10 on 14 April). He is still so young. I don't want to lose him yet.

Yesterday would have been Jake's 10th birthday, a bittersweet day as it is also the first anniversary of our Singapura, Logan's death to FIP. I made his birthday cake and shared it with all the other cats.

I think we have enough to cover what the insurance doesn't, so I've closed the donations. However, if someone really wanted to donate and missed it (several people mentioned they wanted to donate after payday), contact me and I'll sort something out.

I just can't believe he's gone. I keep thinking he'll wander into the room and jump up on the sofa next to me. He loved to lie on me in bed, and he always wanted to have at least a paw touching me. He was my best friend and I miss him so much.

I am sorry to have to make this particular update...
Jacoby died at 18:35 CEST today.

A vet at Anicura called me around 18:25 to tell me he was having trouble breathing and they wanted to know what to do, if they should resuscitate him or use heroic measures…and while I was on the phone with the doctor, he just…died. He was alive at the beginning of the call (which thank StarClan I didn’t miss), and gone at the end of it. Apparently, 20 minutes prior to her calling me, he was doing all right, but then he just crashed. There was no possible way I had time to get there before he was gone.

A different vet had called me earlier in the afternoon to tell me how he was doing. He was still having a lot of trouble breathing outside of the oxygen cage. He was still on the feeding tube. He was too weak for another round of chemo. She told me that the total was up to around 43,000kr in charges (which puts us over his cap; more about that later) and wanted to discuss my DNR wishes, so I knew it wasn’t going to be good. I was already bracing myself for him not celebrating his 10th birthday on Sunday.

It’s so hard to watch them die, to say “okay” and watch the vet inject the overdose of painkillers into them…but it’s a million times worse to not be there…not even be able to be there. Long distance is not the next best thing to being there.

I was planning on going to Jönköping to see him tomorrow. I still will, just not in quite the same way.

Jake was such a special boy. He was born to be my kitten.

As I said above, the insurance cap has been reached so I won’t close the GoFundMe campaign for his chemo just yet as we don’t know what his final total bill will be. Also, the insurance won’t cover his cremation. An anonymous donor made an extremely generous donation, so I am confident there’ll be something left over for New England Abyssinian Rescue. I will close this campaign down on Jake’s birthday, 14 April.
