Cheering for Charlie

As you likely know, Charlie Pingleton had surgery about a year ago to remove a brain tumor. This was an extremely scary time for all of us that love and respect this wonderful man. Through faith, prayer, and an unbelievable spirit, Charlie got through the process with amazing success. His doctors were impressed with how soon he was able to resume a fairly normal life. He beat every timeline, and even as little as three months ago he hoped that the tumor may no longer pose a threat.
Things took a drastic turn for the worse a few weeks ago. Charlie’s health started to deteriorate again. He was more fatigued, his headaches escalated, he had weakness on his right side, and he had speech difficulties, too. When Charlie went in for a checkup, they discovered that the tumor had grown back even larger than before the first surgical procedure, at which point he was diagnosed with Stage 4 Glioblastoma. The tumor was and is now cancerous.
The fear of another surgery set in, and so did the possibility of not coming out of it alive. On November 8th his surgeon went back in to remove as much of the tumor as possible. He successfully removed about 90%. We know he will need rehabilitation, but we don't know to what extent. His surgeon stressed to his family that Charlie's recovery this time will be much more strenuous than the first time. Once all of the swelling subsides we will gain a better perception of what the near future will hold. He's expecting at least a couple months of speech/physical therapies alongside radiation or chemotherapy. As for now, we are just taking it day by day and praying that he continues to improve and will eventually be cancer free!
I have shared many emotions with Charlie since I’ve known him. I’ve been his coach, his boss, and his friend. He has inspired so many people that I don’t know where to begin or end with giving him the kudos he deserves. I can assure you that he has continued to inspire since he left the LWC wrestling program. Our team has begun to pray together at the completion of each practice. This is not a coincidence. Charlie was my first national champion. He is eternally enshrined in our practice facility with an iconic Fathead, and that same iconic pose inspired our silhouette logo that we use to market our program. “Iconic” is maybe the best word to describe Charlie Pingleton.
This battle that he’s continuing to fight will be a lifelong concern, and I’m asking for your help. Charlie is not going to be able to provide income for Alyson and their children. He has given himself to so many people, and now seems like a fitting way to give back to him in the spirit of Veteran’s Day. Charlie is a veteran of the National Guard having recently ended his 6-year term as an E5 Sergeant. He has served so many people in so many ways, and I hope you will now serve him in this time of need.
We are grateful to have so many people who genuinely care. We know it is going to be a very difficult journey but we are confident he is strong enough to beat this! Please keep Charlie and his family in your thoughts and prayers! We are praying that he makes a full recovery so he can go back home to be with his two beautiful boys and mother of his children!
