Chautara (Nepal) Scholarship Fund

Donation protected

Namaste!  I was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Nepal from 1990 to 1992, spending my first  year as an English  teacher in Chautara, Sindhupalchowk District, west of Kathmandu and south of the Langtang Himalaya.  In Chautara, I lived with Dhruba Lal Shrestha, his wife Shobha Ulak (both teachers) and their family.

Dhruba-dhai ("big brother" in Nepali), now headmaster at Shree Krishna Ratna Ganga Higher Secondary School, wrote to me recently asking for help sponsoring two promising students from outlying villages, one boy and one girl, unable to continue their studies without financial support for books, school supplies, exam fees, etc.  Just $125 or so is enough to support one student for one academic year.

Rather than just send a one-off donation, I am trying to raise enough money to create a little scholarship fund for any students in need at the school.  I am putting in $250 of my own to start things off and I will arrange the wire transfer and pay fees to get the money to Nepal.  Any and all contributions, large or small, would be a great help.  Thank you!
