Established in February 2016, Chase Stream Farm (CSF), a member of the Farmer Veteran Coalition, is a veteran-owned organic enterprise located in mid-coast Maine.
Our mission is to provide an opportunity for military veterans to obtain the hands-on experience necessary to successfully start their own farming enterprise.
CSF currently has the facilities and equipment on-site for organic vegetable production.
Your contributions will provide the equipment and resources to expand and diversify the farm’s operations in order to offer veterans a well-rounded educational experience in multiple agricultural disciplines, such as organic maple syrup and honey production, fruit orchard production and livestock management.
Specifically your donations will be used to:
(1) Purchase the equipment necessary to produce maple syrup on-site from sugar maples located on the property. This will include a sugar shack, maple sap evaporator, filtering and bottling equipment.
(2) The seeding of annual and perennial flower beds on the farm to support honey production as well as the hives, bees and honey harvesting equipment.
(3) The soil testing, field preparation, rootstock purchase and planting to establish an organic fruit production capability (apples, Asian pears, raspberries and high-bush blueberries).
(4) A site survey and installation of high tensile woven wire fencing around two 3-acre pastures, run-in, watering and feed facilities to establish a Katahdin sheep starter flock.
Your donations will help us to get started with the foundation of the business so that we can start offering internships to veterans during the spring of 2017! We've got a LOT of work to do, but know that with your help we can get there from here.
