Chase of Hearts

In December of 2018, My nephew Chase went for a routine visit to the pediatrician. During his checkup, the doctor noticed an abnormality in his heart sounds. After many tests with a pediatric cardiologist, it was discovered that Chase has a rare congenital heart defect known as Ebsteins Anomaly. This kind of heart malformation is a defect which means the valve in the right side of the heart is not functioning properly causing a backup of blood flow. In his case, it is just being discovered at age 4. Chases’s test results were reviewed by the cardiology team at Boston’s Children’s Hospital and it was determined that he would undergo open heart surgery to repair his structural defect on May 22, 2019. The standard cost for a pediatric open heart surgery (not including pre-work and testing, extended hospital stay and recovery) is $92,529. While insurance will certainly cover some costs, it will not cover everything. I have started this go fund me to help my brother and sister in law with the financial burden of these medical expenses and also raise awareness of this rare congenital defect.
