DEAR FRIENDS AND FAMILY - FUNDRAISER ALERT
I’m going to help in the refugee camp at Lesvos. They need, well..everything. And I need your help: A DONATION, GAMES, NAILVARNISH AND BEAUTY MASKS !!!
BECAUSE WE CARRY is a small organization with a big mission, set up by a couple of Dutch woman.
It runs a program where each week 7 volunteers go to Greece and help the permanent staff. In a couple of weeks I am heading out there myself, with a suitcase full of games, winter clothes for the families and beauty products: on a mission to personally make sure each penny and every minute I am there will go straight to the cause. BWC is able to support 1300 people in the camp. With the six other volunteers I am aiming to raise 8000euros. This is only six euros per person a week and we will make that money stretch!
Each morning we will hand out breakfast and besides helping to provide basic needs a program is run to offer safe spaces. For the children there are games, arts and crafts - a world to just be a kid again. For the men there is a barber “Beards and Brothers” and for the woman a beauty salon “Beauty and Brains”. A place to feel feminine again, to drink a cup of tea and chit chat that could lead to deeper conversation and ultimately new connections.
While thousands of children are awaiting their destiny are losing faith, suffering from varying degrees of depression and the suicide rates are high. BWC’s mission reaches out and offers a sense of normality and dignity.
I’m volunteering and raising money because I really believe in their mission. Instead of taking a summer holiday this year I felt, after all the good energy I received, that I wanted to give back. I’ve spent my holiday money to cover the expenses of my travel and made a donation towards the fund. You can help too. Sponsor me or volunteer – Because We Carry does is a great organization. I'm Charlotte Scott-Wilson and from Amsterdam, The Netherlands. I have a direct contact with the Because we Carry organisation and all donations will be put into their account. To be specific the money will be spent on food, warm clothing, toys and beauty products.
